Before the dance Cindy and Terry Gardner, representing TC Swing, gave free swing dance lessons to a very large numbers of students. Glen Newton and dance chair Amy Lauria welcomed the dancers and gave an overview of the evening's activities.

At this point, while the band took a break, Amy and Glen led the ceremonies to honor all veterans and active military personnel, recognizing the five branches of service and including two WWII veterans.

After the break, the Minnesota Fire Service Pipe Band performed these selections with the Roseville Big Band:
BP1. The pipe band marched in to Jimmie Findlater (Roseville Big Band joins in on third part of the tune (at letter C))
BP2. The Rose of Kelvingrove (band intro; solo piper-Lynn Ista, then all pipers once; repeat tune, and on repeat of second part go to the coda)
BP3. Highland Cathedral (1 bar snare, 1 bar drone, 8 bars pipe solo by Lynn Ista (A1), then band joins (A2, B, A3, A4, B, A3, Coda)
BP4. Amazing Grace (Jonathan Halberg plays a solo bagpipe verse, then Lynn Ista and Mark Getty join for a verse, and finally we play the pipes and band verse), dedicated to all military personnel, past and present, with a special remembrance of the Allied military personnel who died on D-Day, 75 years ago last Thursday
