At the September 4, 2001, rehearsal, Dan played in the trumpet section with (left to right) Harvey Skow, Peter Davis, and Mark Lee Dan uses his hand for a plunger.
Dan plays an old brass flugelhorn. Dan played a flugelhorn solo on "I Don't Want to Walk Without You" at the Fall, 2005, Commemorative Air Force Dance.
With his upgraded flugelhorn, Dan played a solo on "You Made Me Love You" at the Newman-Gall wedding, October 6, 2007. Dan plays a silver-plated flugelhorn.

The Roseville Big Band first met Dan when he subbed for the August 4, 2001, Confederate Air Force Air Show hangar dance. Called at the last minute because of an illness, Dan joined the band in the middle of the first set and sight-read the dance.

Dan plays in the South Washington Community Band and the Community Brass Ensemble. He also has played in a variety of pit bands, including backing up productions by the Lakeshore Players, Heritage Players, and the North St. Paul Community Theater.

Dan also plays in his church orchestra, including accompanying a ten-performance sold-out run of "Scrooge". He is a sub in the BBB Jazz Orchestra and 7 Cats Swing, a group that also includes Roseville Big Band members Glen Peterson, Dave Tuenge and Mike Wobig.

Dan subs on trumpet in the Dakota Valley Symphony Orchestra and on cornet and flugelhorn in the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band. He also plays in the Red Rock Swing Band.
