Val joined Carly Grandner and Laura Tempel on "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" at the July 28, 2009, concert in Central Park.

Val is a 2009 graduate of Champlin Park High School (CPHS). She sang soprano in the Concert Choir and the vocal jazz group for two years and was featured on solos in both groups. In her senior year, Val was president of the Concert Choir and was named the Outstanding Senior from the CPHS choirs. Val also was a member of the All-Conference and All-State honor choirs for two years.

Outside of school, Val has been a featured soloist at her church on holidays and other occasions.

Val has been part of the CPHS Ovation cast all four years of high school. On the July 28, 2009, Roseville Big Band concert, Val was featured on "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "It's Only a Paper Moon", two of her featured songs from Ovation 2009, as well as "Side by Side" and "Dance to the Big Band Swing.".
