Cody Norling

Cody improvised a solo on "Delta City Blues" during the July 19, 2011, rehearsal.   Cody's senior picture gives equal billing to his tenor sax.
    Cody played an alto sax solo on "Epistrophy" on the August 2, 2011, concert in Central Park.  

A 2011 graduate of Champlin Park High School (CPHS), Cody is fluent in both jazz and classical idioms. During high school, he was the CPHS Jazz 1 ensemble's lead alto sax player for three years and played alto sax in the CPHS Symphonic Band. He was also a featured tenor sax soloist in the CPHS Ovation 2010 and 2011 productions. Cody also played lead alto in the Northside Big Band, an auditioned district-wide ensemble.

At the Eau Claire, Wisconsin, jazz festivals, Cody won awards as an outstanding soloist each of the three years he atttended. In the classical genre, his saxophone quartet received two superior ratings in the Minnesota solo and ensemble competitions.

Outside of school, he has played in the Saint Louis Park Community Band, the Minnesota Youth Jazz Band, the Shell Lake Big Band, the Dakota Combo, and his own quartet (sax, piano, bass, and drums).

Cody plans to major in saxophone performance at University of Wisconsin, La Crosse. He has both music major and jazz studies scholarships at UW-L.

Cody first performed with the Roseville Big Band on the August 2, 2011, concert.
