Tuba Part to "Earth" by Glen Newton

"Earth" - tuba part.

This movement from "The Elements", which Glen Newton composed as part of the 1983 West Bank School of Music composers' workshop, features a euphonium and tuba duet starting at letter A. On the repeat, the clarinet and bassoon join in to flesh out the chords and add some movement. At D the four wind instruments play the chorale with heavy vibrato, yet without sounding burlesque, and on the repeat, for contrast, they play the chorale without vibrato.

The composer comments:

The tuba family's broad tone seemed an appropriate choice for "Earth". I played the tuba part on my Yamaha YBB-321, a medium-sized BB-flat tuba. Jon played the euphonium part on my Besson 767. To emphasize the tuba family tone, I gave the euphonium and tuba the outer parts at D and E.
