This nameless trio played for dancing at the Brown Bungalow in July, 1965. |
Left to right: Glen Newton, Hammond B-3 organ; Wayne Fritchie, drums; Dan Kirchner, guitar
The Brown Bungalow restaurant, north of Big Rapids, Michigan, featured live entertainment on weekends. Sometimes the performing groups were pickup combos like the one shown above. This was Glen's first exposure to the wonders of drawbar-based tone creation and the tonal subtleties of the rotating Leslie speakers on the Hammond B-3.
Glen also performed at the Brown Bungalow as a duo with drummer and vocalist John King.
As the years progressed, the Brown Bungalow became the Charwood Inn and the Hammond B-3 was relocated to the Baptist Church in Reed City, Michigan.
