Roseville Big Band 1990 Sit-in Night Invitation

Dear Roseville Big Band Sub,

Thank you for the times you've filled in for us in the past. To allow us to meet new people interested in big band jazz and renew old acquaintances, we're planning an open rehearsal we call a "sit-in night". Here's the text of the newspaper announcement:

"The Roseville Big Band will hold a sit-in night Tuesday, February 6, for adult musicians interested in playing big band jazz and swing music. Sit-in night, which will be held in the band room at Parkview Center School, 701 West County Road B, Roseville, will give instrumentalists the opportunity to play in a section, as well as ad lib soloing, if they are interested, in an informal rehearsal setting."

We'd like to invite you and any of your friends who might be interested to attend the rehearsal, meet the band members, and join us in an enjoyable evening of music.

The Big Band has some upcoming public performances that may interest you. The first is our concert Saturday, February 3, at the Presbyterian Church of the Way, 3382 N. Lexington Ave., Roseville, between County Roads D and E. This concert, featuring a variety of jazz, swing, and pop music, is an organ fundraiser for the church. Tickets are available at the door, with a suggested donation of $6, and include both a chili dinner at 6:00 P.M. and the concert at 7:00 P.M.

The Big Band will also provide music for a dance sponsored by the Confederate Air Force, Saturday, May 19. The dance will be held in hangar #3 at Fleming Field in South St. Paul, and the music will focus on sounds of the World War II era. The dance is tentatively scheduled for 8:00 P.M. until midnight. Tickets will be available at the door.

We also have three concerts planned for Roseville's Central Park bandshell, near the southeast corner of County Road C and Lexington in Roseville. Thursday, June 14, we will play at 7:30 P.M. We'll play a concert the afternoon of Wednesday, July 4, as part of the Independence Day celebration, but the time hasn't yet been set. Our final concert of the season will be Tuesday, August 14, at 7:00 P.M. These performances are all free.

If you're able to attend any of the performances, I hope you'll stop by afterward and say hello.

If you'd like further information, please call me at 483-8911.
