A. J. plays tenor sax. A. J. played the beginning cadenza on Charlie Mingus' tribute to tenor saxophonist Lester Young, "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat."

A. J. was a featured soloist with the Roseville Big Band on the July 31 and August 2, 2007, concerts.

A 2007 graduate of Roseville Area High School (RAHS), A. J. played tenor sax in the RAHS jazz bands and concert bands. He was also featured with the RAHS Jazz I ensemble on a clarinet solo on "Anitra's Dance" in 2007. In 2006, A.J. formed and led the Roseville High School Combo, which performed at school and church functions as well as the UW LaCrosse Jazz Festival.

A. J.'s musical honors included four years of superior ratings in the state solo and ensemble competitions, Special Citations for Outstanding Musicianship at the 2006 and 2007 UW LaCrosse Jazz Festivals, and the RAHS Outstanding Soloist Award at the conclusion of his senior year. The solo for which he received the Special Citation in 2007 was "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," which he also performed with the Roseville Big Band.

Starting in the fall of 2007, A. J. is a student at University of North Dakota. He plays tenor sax in Jazz I and also plays clarinet in a six-piece combo. His classes include jazz studies.
