Percussion Part to "Fire" by Glen Newton - Page 1

"Fire" - page 1 of percussion part

As shown by the legend at the bottom of the page, the percussionist plays a variety of sounds in this final movement of "The Elements", which Glen Newton composed as part of the 1983 West Bank School of Music composers' workshop. Unfortunately, the siren whistle jammed on one of the performances, so the 6/8 march at letter H, featuring the melody in the alto horn, had to rely on the other instruments to convey the impression of a Keystone Cops style fire department rushing to the scene of the blaze.

Percussionist Matt Barber suggested the technique of slapping together the bamboo wind chimes.
