Kay plays a curved soprano sax, with her alto in her lap. Kay played a soprano sax solo on "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" at the February 7, 2004, Carleton College Mid-Winter Dance.

Role in Roseville Big Band: 

Lead alto sax; Kay also doubles on clarinet, flute and piccolo, and soprano, tenor, baritone, and bass saxes.

Member since: 

1976 (baritone sax through 1984, then lead alto sax)

Occupation: 

Elementary school teacher for EBD children

Kay graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in music education.

She has played in the Roseville Comunity Band, subbed in the Johnny Owen band, and conducted the Dakota Community Band. In the Fall and Winter of 2000-2001, she was the interim director of the Roseville Community Band.

Kay created the Roseville Big Band's arrangement of "Happy Birthday" and created a story-telling set of lyrics for "Minnie the Moocher" from among the many verses sung by Cab Calloway.
